1905, 1945, and 2015

My great grandmother Anna Teresa Moran was married to Edward A Powers 110 years ago today in Ellicott City, Maryland.  She was from West Virginia and was taken to Baltimore, MD in 1891 by her sister (a newspaper article from the period suggests she was kidnapped) after discovering that her father would leave her alone for very long periods of time. 

Anna and Edward had 4 children while living in Ellicott City and eventually moved closer to Baltimore where Edward ran a popular saloon and hotel called Suburban Gardens.  They had Vaudeville acts,  outdoor dancing areas and plenty of liquor.  Unfortunately, it was closed down as a result of prohibition.  Edward then worked for the Baltimore Sun newspaper for 20 plus years. When he retired, they moved to St Petersburg, FL.  

The watch around her neck was given to her by Edward as a wedding present.  It has pearls around the face and a shamrock on the back (he was a very proud Irishman).  She is pictured here approximately 40 years later still wearing the watch.
