National Civil War Museum
This is a picture of the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg. The first time that I was at the museum was when it first opened a few years ago. I loved the idea of having a Civil War museum to visit that was little more than an hour away from my house. There are a ton of exhibits and are so numerous that the museum has to switch out different artifacts, meaning that there is always something new to see. There are also numerous reenacting units that volunteer to do live demonstrations on the premises. Our unit was lucky enough to do this once, and it was nice because we could teach people that are physically close to home, other than always in places far away. I remember the first time that I went to the new museum; my family went around the gift shop and picked out some things. As my mom went to pay for the things, my dad and I went into the lobby to wait. While out there, he asked me what a coin in a glass case said, so I bent over to look at it. Little did I know what the case was behind a glass window and when I got in close I cracked my head off of the glass. The loud “pong” echoed through the entire museum. Hopefully everyone thought it was a cannon shot, and I finally knew how birds feel.
