Voyage of a Beagle & Lab

By Inez

Coco seemed not notice the blossom on the end of her nose and didn't want me to remove it. I joined her making the most of the sun, I was feeling a little sore and sorry for myself after pulling my calf muscle.
This evening we attended the Senior Award Ceremony at Ky's school. It was a very emotional evening, first up was Ky's friend, Shannon, singing - despite being told repeatedly what a fantastic singer she was I was totally unprepared for the wonderful mature voice that came from the girl that is always full of giggles and the centre of hilarity when round at our house - they really aren't little girls anymore! I've no idea how her mum coped because I had a tear in my eye.
The headmistress used her annual speech to announce her retirement and  to thank her staff and pupils for their support and hard work in her 11 years there. She is going to be missed having really turned the school around. When she took the position the school had only been open a couple of years and had suffered a few teething problems, the catchment area covered 7 villages, full of children who hadn't all previously gone to school together and there were some tensions between them, the school management team came from a much smaller school that closed and seemed ill prepared for the challenge of setting up a totally new school. Mrs McCulloch turned the school around and by empowering her pupils created a sense of pride and belonging that has seen its reputation soar.
