Now, as I see it......

Pantheon

I forgot to mention that we started in Rome on a slightly sour note yesterday when we got ripped off by the taxi from the station. All the signs tell you only to use an official white taxi and we did, or at least, we think we did. He quoted a price for the journey and as we had no idea where the apartment was, having not been to Rome before, we accepted it even if it seemed a bit steep. When I saw how far it was I realised we'd been had; I beat him down a bit but even so, it was too much. But never mind; we learn by experience and It won't happen again.

The apartment is halfway between the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Today it has been wet all day but we still ventured out and after seeing the aforementioned sights, we went to see the tomb of Augustus (closed) and the adjoining museum housing the Ara Pacis. From there we walked down to the Piazza Navone and had a very good lunch in one of the little streets nearby. Back to the Pantheon which is my Blip for today, and on to the Largo di Torre Argentina, a square close to where Julius Caeser was killed and which has several Roman remains. Finally, down to the Forum but it was too late to do it justice, so we sussed out relevant details of the tickets and will go back later in the week.

A lot of walking and after a decent lunch it's just bread, cheese and wine in the apartment again tonight. We managed to find an English channel on the TV, which seems only to play back to back Poirot and 'Murder She Wrote'!
