another sign of spring

This is pulmonaria, also known as lungwort. I always wondered why the name,  but apparently in days gone by the spotted leaves were thought to resemble diseased lungs so it was used to treat lung infections and other diseases. I have no idea how successful it was . I suspect not very. However it is one of the early bloomers in the shade garden along with the hellebores. It  sends out rhizomes very slowly, so it increases nicely in the garden and does not try to take over.
