The Light In Winter
Winter is here and I am sooooo excited!
Friday night marked the start of 2 great festivals here in sunny, chilly, cold, grey, bright, lively, magical Melbourne. A combined opening saw a camp fire in the centre of Federation Square with a group of indigenous and jazz muscians fusing their sounds to create some brilliant entertainment.
The Jazz festival kicked off with an awesome free concert of extrodinary muscians who kept the crowd dancing. In between acts we were kept mezmorised by the spaceship.
Yes, that's right - there's a spaceship in Federation Square...you can text it questions and it provides scrolling replys.
No, I'm not crazy (no comments required from my workmates here!!), its an Art installation related to the second festival, 'The Light in Winter'. This festival involves changing art installations (also based in the square), that explore the use and magic of light and space (in more than one context). This years festival is themed on storytelling and technology.
Todays blip is a feature of the Light in Winter festival and is currently hanging in the Squares' Atrium area. A stunning grand chandelier created by the genius of Miles Johnson, it is made from handblown coloured glass and costs a casual $75,000....It's nice to look at :)
Dashing back into the festival now (more stories to be heard around the camp fire) - but I'd ike to wish my very dear friend Dimimav (also a blipper), a very happy birthday! I very much hope she's enjoying the wonderful world of winter!
