Black Mountains Blips

All roads lead to...

Hopes of Longtown!

Signs and symbols for the WidWed09 challenge...

With a masters in Semiotics, this should be a field day, however, I am busy, too busy to do something creative, so I walked the 10 metres to the crossroads and took a photo of the traffic sign... Stalkers amongts you can now work out where I live...

It is pleasingly full of stuff, including a brown sign to the castle, with the symbol for castle/fortification on it.

It also has the shop sign designed by kids from the local primary school, which includes four more symbols of the post office, milk, etc.

This will have to do for today. Photographically not that interesting but I would like to draw your attention to the following:

We are all aware of the disaster that struck Nepal. The Nepali people are close to my heart as a mountain lover and climber. I have been to Nepal, to run Everest Marathon. I have been to Everest Basecamp, I have trekked there for weeks... The mountain people of Nepal are the warmest, most generous and most resilient people I have met. They nursed me back to health when I was seriously ill too, sparing the food I needed out of their own mouths, where the Western trip organisers and doctors did precisely nothing!

At the time I ran to raise money for the Glacier Trust. A charity run by a friend and old colleague of mine. He runs it pretty much on his own, he is retired and ALL money goes to the Nepali people. He normally instigates projects to give the people knowledge, skill and the tools to remain self sufficient and to combat the effects of climate change but he has started an emergency appeal. I have just donated and I urge you to consider doing the same:
