Elizabeth's Birthday Present
This afternoon, we went to the Opera House to see Miriam Margolyes doing Dickens' Women.
She held the stage for two hours, with just a little piano music here and there to 'colour in' (that's part of the piano player in the background). Lots of information about Dickens, the real women in his life, the fictional women in his books (and the sometimes blurry line between them) and many characters energetically portrayed. It was intelligent, witty, charming and very entertaining. We had fabulous seats in the middle of the second row. You could see every thought being had...
As if that's not enough work, she then sat in the foyer autographing programmes (and being intelligent, witty, charming...).
I hadn't planned to, but I suddenly found myself saying "Um, it's my friend's birthday - I wonder if you'd mind...?"
I think they both look rather sexy.
