Baby oak

The weather was much better today, thankfully, with long spells of sunshine which tempered the effects of the rather chilly breeze. Although I was a little worried that the car might not start, it behaved perfectly and we were on site by 9. The work went smoothly, which meant that we left the quarry by 2.30 and arrived back in Peterborough at 5, only experiencing minor delays at the Dartford Crossing and on the A14.

Spring still seems to be relatively late, but down in Surrey most of the oaks leaves had unfurled, and were that glorious shade of acid yellowish-green, which contrasts so well with the bluebells which seem to be so abundant in the woods and hedgerows. But this baby oak, no more than 20cm in height, had the most beautiful reddish tinges as well - irresistible.
