The alchemy of bees...

...  has changed these into these. Four of the seven flowers on this twig were fertilised and are happily heading towards applehood, two others are already almost dry enough to be blown away by the next wind. One looks as if it was fertilised but won't survive.

I love how the remnants of the flower cling on, and will still be there (though smaller) in 7 to 8 weeks' time when the apples are ready for harvesting.

With luck. At the moment it looks as if this year's crop will be about as far below average as last year's was above. And the tree will also have to combat the extended family of the aphid already doing a recce of the top apple.
