Learning from each other

A day out of the office with some great colleagues to consider how we maximise the impact of work to widen access to higher education.

My blip is of Dame Ruth Silver - recently appointed chair of a new commission on widening access. If you've heard the First Minister talking about her personal commitment to widen access, the commission is further demonstration of government interest in the area.

The real highlight of the day were a group of care experienced young people who took the time to explain their stories. Talented and articulate each one. But also let down, on occasion, by the various elements of the state. Often unthinkingly so.

It was a privilege to hear them speak.
