Australian Bees

Was horrified today to see the bees were building downwards below the frames. Had never seen this and was worried it might also be connected with a swarm preparation.

Quickly photographed and sent it to MrB who luckily replied it was OK and simply they were building more drone (male) brood cells. Apparently this often happens when using "high floor" bottoms which I am doing for the first time. Previous bottom boards left hardly any space between the bottom of the frames and the floor.

Phew!
