yellow-rumped warbler
setophaga coronata

it must be warbler week, or better warbler month, as spring migration is well underway.  i have never seen a warbler at our feeders.  now two in two days.  oh my!

today, mr. yellow-rumped warbler showed up for lunch and flitted in and out over the course of the afternoon.  he is a bright and festive fellow, quite congenial and most generous with his posing.  that was helpful.  but capturing the yellow of his head, his breast and his rump in one shot was a challenge.  think about it.

many species of warblers have yellow on them.  there is the yellow warbler, the golden-cheeked warbler, the yellow-throated warbler, the golden-winged warbler and finally, the yellow-rumped warbler.  man….  that's a bad joke.  did anyone suggest golden-crowned?  yellow-sided?  this fella's a nice guy.

mr. yellow-rump, it was great to see you today.  it's been a long time.  you are as sweet and gentle as i remember.  never mind about your name.
