Looking Across Lake Tekapo.....

.....from the road to Mt John Observatory.

We woke to a frost, an iced windscreen, a bitterly cold wind, but a predominantly clear blue sky.
It was unbelievably windy at the top of Mt John at the Observatory, but the 360 degree views were amazing. Lunch was in the warmth and shelter of the Astro Cafe. The food was tasty, especially the delicious carrot cake which had been recommended by my friend, Jennie.
The Canterbury University Research Observatory has been situated on the summit of Mt John since the mid 1960’s. This is located in the largest dark sky reserve in the world

Thank you for the comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s Merino Sheep blip.

The extra photos
1: The Sheep Dog Statue and a living model called McKenzie. This stature was erected in 1968 by the run-holders of the McKenzie region as a tribute to the collie dog and their importance on the farm and mountainous terrain.
2: Sunrise reflection in the window of the Church of the Good Shepherd. This was built in 1935 in memory of the pioneers of the McKenzie region.

3: Lake McGregor.  This small lake is nearby and is home to Rainbow and Brown Trout.
