Wordsworth house is haunted!
Cockermouth was full of ghosts today; ghostly children, John Dalton and his mother, lots of random Georgians, and these four. William and Dorothy spent their early childhood very happily at Wordsworth House * and spent much time playing on the terrace. Today they were surprised to meet a much older man who sprouted a bit of poetry about how much he had liked living there as a child - and he seemed to know them in a strange way!
Perhaps this all had something to do with Cockermouth's Georgian Fair!
* Of course, it wasn't called that when he lived there as a child!
Two more things: Wordsworth House has costumed guides who look very authentic. When my friend Alison started working in the garden she did not know this fairly interesting fact. She looked up towards the house and there, looking at her was a woman in Georgian clothes....! I think this is what is described as "giving someone quite a turn!"
