Load Lines

The original "Plimsoll mark" was a circle with a horizontal line through it to show the maximum draft of a ship. Additional marks have been added over the years, allowing for different water densities and expected sea conditions.

The letters on the load line marks have the following meanings:

TF – Tropical Fresh Water
F – Fresh Water
T – Tropical Seawater
S – Summer Temperate Seawater
W – Winter Temperate Seawater
WNA – Winter North Atlantic

This etching was seen on the back of The Ship Inn, our favourite source of WiFi and sustenance.

The other side of the pub had red and white lights mounted in the style of port and starboard warning lights. Inside was more maritime paraphernalia than you could ever imagine.

We are back home to the warm embrace of our own WiFi

A six hour, unremarkable journey, punctuated by roadworks at every turn.

Now for the wonderful task of catching up with your Hourable Journals
