How Green is my Valley?

Today I discovered that putting a locust onto the scanner plate, shutting the lid and scanning it is a worthless pursuit. 
I was just so proud of picking the locust unharmed from the hollyhock and bringing it all the way up the hill, booting up the machine, having the insect jump away into the world of dust amongst the cables, fetching it back out again, etc.
But the scanner chooses its own crops which I cannot override, and it focuses on insect-retrieved-fluff better than it will focus on 3D insect so here is another look down the hill.
