Inaugural Tour de Yorkshire

5years 193days

We had a busy busy day today!! We got out early and had a little walk in the sunshine before ballet this morning. I had to take her out early as we needed to get to her piano lesson, which happens to be a street over from part of the Tour de Yorkshire route and therefore just beyond a bunch of road blocks. We made it in time though! She was so excited to go but then she could barely sit still. She managed moments of excellence all the same and her teacher said she's doing really well. After the lesson, we headed on foot towards town to find somewhere to watch the race from.

The big church had events on inside so we looked at their "Tour de Transcept" for children and got a lolly from the ice cream van in the grounds. We picked a spot and waved to the police of the rolling road block as we waited. We stayed in our spot for the first batch of the peloton, including Bradley Wiggins at the front. I have a photo of her waving at the bikes, but I like her face here too much! We made a quick dash to a second spot to see the main pack. A couple of friends were there too so Katie got a shoulder ride, while I knelt down at the kerbside for photos. Our friend owns a chocolate shop so we had some free samples and Katie got a chocolate bunny. Katie decided she would like a sign, and an official agreed. So she has one for her and one for school - and two of the big road closure signs withe date on. She has one of each on her wall now!

We headed home via the shop to get a birthday card. They were giving away lots of Yorkshire products so she snacked on cheese and crisps. We got home and got sorted before heading out to this afternoon's birthday party. She was quite shy to start with before trotting off and having a glorious time with the entertainer. We cycled on home and she asked me to join her in the bath. Snuggled on the bed after, as I got sorted, she fell asleep.
