Cowslips
Cold out today on our walk - I had to dig out my hat again (thought it was finished with until next winter)!
We wandered up to Clifford Moor through the old lay-by which is slowly being taken over by wildlife. There are a few of these cowslips on the grass part of the bridleway - though not nearly as many as on the road verges. Maybe they will become more established over the years. Can you spot the little ant?
The lay-by is quite sheltered in a little dip and seems to have its own little micro-climate - it always seems to be good for blossom.
When it was closed off the highways agency left behind tons of accumulated rubbish which is just lying in the hedgerows - countless bottles of 'truckers tizer' left over from when it was a favourite overnight stop for lorries. There are wheels, tyres, old batteries, bits of bodywork and plastic bags caught in the trees. I do wish they would clear it away, but I doubt they will as it is not visible from the highway!
