White Pelican on the Fox River

The pelicans have been back for about three weeks
now.  They spend their winters along the gulf coast
and are now having a fishing frenzy along the Fox.
You can also tell that is mating season by seeing the
flat rounded plate on their beaks.  It will drop off
after nesting is finished.  Pelicans like other shore
birds migrate north in spring by flying high in a
V-formation.  I am excited when I see pelicans in
the spring; they remind me of prehistoric birds.
