Bugged!

This pretty little bug appeared on some of our clothes waiting for the wash. It seemed like a good macro blip subject. It's only about 4mm long from head to tail so it was a bit tricky to photograph, especially as it got a bit lively once it warmed up under the anglepoise lamp I was using. It was definitely camera-shy; whenever I turned round the paper on which it was walking, to get it facing the camera, it promptly turned the other way!

As it was so tiny, and in spite of using a makeshift macro lens, I've had to crop it a lot to enlarge it, so I thought  a triptych to show its different poses would be sensible. At this magnification it looks almost as if its wings are covered with a fine carpet-like material.

Best viewed large.

So far we've failed to identify it from our books - anyone know what it is?

JDO and TrudieK have kindly pointed out that Walking Wombat has introduced a new "May Macro Mayhem" challenge so it seems appropriate to tag this for that challenge - many thanks Walking Wombat!!
