Return to Naufplion

We were last year in 2006 and loved it so much that we said we would come back one day. Greece has gone through a hard austerity programme since then, far more than the UK, but apart from a few hotels and shops closed up, Naufplion still is that vibrant, beautiful and buzzing town. Probably helps to that it's a 1 hour 40 min drive from Athens.

After a bit of a wrangle at the car hire we were on the motorway and arrived at the Pension Marianna, a traditional Greek hotel set into the hillside with fig, jasmine and lemon trees growing in the cobbles. The smell is wonderful. The sun is shining and have eaten our first Greek salad and souvlaki, cooked to perfection at the Karima restaurant.

It's good to be back.

This is the view from our room.
Ps one of the highlight of today was seeing two wild tortoises in the scrub as we went up to the castle:)
