Remembrance Day 2015 ...
This time I made a picture of the National Merchant Navy Memorial. The monument is located on the river Nieuwe Maas at the mouth of the Leuvehaven, located at the Boompjeskade in Rotterdam.
Commemorated groups: Merchant Marine Personnel
Designer: Federico Antonio Carasso (1899-1969)
Disclosure: April 10, 1957.
The sculpture is placed on a concrete pedestal. The base is a bronze sculpture group posted five male figures connected by a cable. Arranged below the cable is embossed the wake of a ship. The memorial is 45 meters high. The base is 2 meters high and 13 meters wide.
In today's extra picture you can see the 45 meter high column which represents a ship's bow cleaving through the waves.
Our gratitude goes to all those brave men who unselfishly gave their lives for our freedom.
In mono Monday theme of the week terms: May the fourth (always be in your memory) ...
