Return visit

When I visited Castle hill NNR last spring it was dismal and raining and the shots I took were far from great because of that!
Well, I have learned a lot in this past year, and top of the list is choose your day, and your light very carefully.
Rosie (my number 1 spotter) came with me, sadly I had forgotten it was a 1.5 mile walk to the bank where the orchids grew, so we are both really tired now!
And, to make matters worse, they were only just coming into bloom so I might have to do it all again!!
The Early Spider orchid
Ophrys sphegodes favours alkaline meadows near to the sea and is found chiefly in Dorset Sussex and Kent.
They are only a few inches tall, and quite beautiful with flowers not dissimilar to the more common Bee orchid.
I was so pleased to see them today and the number of unopened buds really does show great promise....just need to get fitter now ready for the repeat walk!
