Connel Bridge

The HG had some business to do in Oban, so we decided to travel up by bus today.  This involved a very early start, leaving home at 7am to get the 8.30 am bus to Oban from Glasgow.  We had a very good journey up, with some beautiful scenery on the way.  We arrived in Oban after 11am, and had coffee before conducting the business.  

Then had some time for a stroll around town and harbour, before going for a meal in the 'world famous' Oban Bay Fish and Chip Shop.  It was really good so its reputation is untainted.

Caught the 6.15 pm bus back to Glasgow and had a really nice run back to the city.  It was very busy on the return, perhaps because it was a holiday, and we were glad we had booked our seats.

Connel Bridge is a cantilever bridge that spans Loch Etive at Connel in Scotland. The bridge takes the A828 road across the narrowest part of the loch, at the Falls of Lora.

The bridge was built by Arrol's Bridge and Roof Company to carry the Ballachulish branch of the Callander and Oban Railway, which opened on 20 August 1903. When complete it had a longer span than any other railway bridge in Britain except the Forth Bridge.
