Voodoo Lily

Once a year, for a very brief time, I see this strange and wonderful plant on my walk downtown to the library. It's a bit hidden in a mass of similar green things, so I have to look carefully and keep an eye out for the unfurling. Also known as Corpse Flower, it supposedly has a ghastly odor to lure pollinating insects, but I've never smelled it. I can't get closer than about four feet because of all the other vegetation, so maybe that accounts for it. I'm just left with the absolute marvel of how gorgeous and weird this is.
