Under the Plane Tree at Pylos

I had an early morning stroll up by the castle to get some pics of poppies, then down for breakfast before packing up for our journey to Pylos.

The route is through some lovely green plateaus surrounded by mountains, all very fertile land with numerous crops growing. The motorway is relatively new with tunnels blasted into the mountains .
It was a toll road from Nafplion to Kalamata and what was the weirdest thing was there was hardly any traffic on it! We stopped at a services for the toilet, all brand spanking new, opened three years but when I asked where the people were they said not many people use it! The toilet fitments were sparkling!! It was like there was no one on earth but us!

It's been 10 years since we had a two week holiday in the Messinia region and it was good to be back. The sea was sparkling blue in the harbour with little brightly coloured fishing boats bobbing along . It was time for a little refreshment under the Plane tree. Blending in with the locals.
