Bite the bullet
My NHS orthotics aren't good enough. I've known this for a while. I haven't been able to run more than a 10k without excessive rubbing forcing me to stop. I'd developed nasty callouses all over my feet as a result.
I decided enough was enough and that I should just bite the bullet and pay for proper orthotics. 6 weeks ago I booked an appointment to see Jacqui Baggaley - she has a waiting list. But she is the best podiatrist in Edinburgh.
Today was my appointment. She confirmed that my orthotics were doing little for me - they're big, they're clunky, they're not fit properly to my foot, they're too flexible. They simply aren't good enough for running.
She understood my need to run. She removed all of my callouses, took an impressive array of measurements and fitted me for my new orthotics. They're quite pricey, but I am convinced that they will be absolutely worth it. I'll be able to run again without pain. I'll even be able to wear normal shoes again! Also, my feet are soooo pretty now!
This is the best thing I could have done, I wish I'd done it last year. But I felt I had to try the free NHS route first. You live and learn. I pick my new orthotics up in a couple of weeks. I'm so so excited, I can't wait!
In other news, I'm off to the Opera tonight to see L’elisir D’Amore. Here is my review - http://alledinburghtheatre.com/lelisir-damore-review/
