The HMQS Gayundah
The HMQS Gayundah started out as a gunboat and was originally commissioned by the Queensland Government in 1885 for the protection of the Queensland coastline. Then after federation in 1901 it was retained by the Australian Navy as a training ship.
She was sold in 1921 to the Brisbane Gravel Co. and was used as a sand and gravel barge in the Brisbane river.
In 1958 the Gayundah was purchased by the Redcliffe council and was beached at it's current location as a breakwater.
Not a fitting end to vessel who served her country.
