Up with the Dawn Chorus

This morning I was at our Salvation Army hall at 6 am.  Not because I've suddenly developed religious mania, but because we were a polling station and I drew the short straw for letting the Presiding Officer in.

Did you know that once the staff are inside the building they are not allowed to leave it until the close of polling?  They have to be entirely self-sufficient and cannot borrow so much as a plate from the host building.  They cannot wear any colour of clothing which might suggest allegiance to a particular political party - which really leaves black, white and brown for the choice of outfit!
