Netherton Tunnel

Netherton Tunnel, the last canal tunnel to be built in during the 'Canal Age', started in 1855 and opening in 1858. It connected Netherton and Tipton and relieved the bottleneck of the adjacent Dudley Tunnel which is very narrow, has alternating blocks of one-way working, and had waiting times of between eight hours and several days.

The tunnel is 1 mile and 1267 yards long.

Obviously another contender for one of the Seven Wonders of the Black Country.
