Lake Tahoe

We headed East into the stunning landscape of Lake Tahoe.

A huge expanse of ice-blue surrounded by pine forest and stunning blue/grey fractured rock-faces fringed with brittle sand beaches backed by freshwater lagoons filled with water lillies, tadpoles like dolphins and brilliant dragonflies.

The place is an exemplar of the the dichotomy that is the states, incongruity is king.
South Lake Tahoe town sits on the state-line twixt California and Nevada the latter is the home of gambling and hasty matrimony.

stroll through the casino with its lights, bells and 24hr gambling a whiff of chlorine coming up from the pool and the hint of desperation that sometimes comes with betting and out the other side back into sunshine and California walk down to the lakeside past the low rise motels with great names Capri, Stardust, camp Thunderheart past the Naked Sushi/Pizza place and be awed by the range of mountains dominated by Mt Tallac whilst standing next to a delivery of new building material that boasts 'the most believable architectural stone veneer in the world' their logo 'See it and Believe'.

Then back to the hotel for the lovely morning swim in the pool straight out of Ken Adams scrapbook and relax in the garden outside watching Blue Jays.
