Democracy rules
The 8th of May 2015 will be memorable for two reasons. The first is of course the way it has marked a changed political landscape, in such stark contrast with expectations. From being too close to call while the polling booths were open, it somehow morphed overnight into a surprising victory, accompanied by the culling of some very big political egos.
This is the moment when the winning party leader arrived for audience with Her Majesty, while his three key rivals were all resigning. Look closely, and you can see the Prime Ministerial Jaguar pulled up alongside an entrance in the Buckingham Palace inner quadrangle.
The other notable event today was commemorated at 3 pm this afternoon with a two minute silence at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. On the 70th anniversary of VE Day, we should all be grateful to those who fought so long ago to preserve our democracy today.
