Porty People and Nearby places

The skirl of the pipes echoed through Waverley Station, Edinburgh as a party of wealthy tourists were piped onto The Royal Scotsman's heritage railway carriages for a rail cruise around Scotland.

This vintage Deltic Diesel (Class 55) was attached to the end of the train, being pulled by a modern diesel engine.  This Deltic would be allowed to roar its way from Fort William to Mallaig later in their grand tour of Scotland.

We woke to the sound of different roar this morning from the SNP following the incredible results for them at the General Election.

Despite the unprecedented success of SNP there was no sense of celebration in Edinburgh which surprised me.

We travelled to London for a combination of work and family celebrations this weekend. The champagne bars of the city were overflowing with ecstatic southerners toasting the election result in England.

On a weekend when we commemorate the 70th Anniversary of VE Day I cannot help wondering what all those who fought, and sacrificed for our freedom, would have made of what is happening in The United Kingdom in 2015?
