Crumpets for tea?

I fancied some crumpets for tea. Having never made them before, I wasn't sure how hard they might be. This picture shows my one perfect crumpet on the right, with one of many less than perfect ones on the left.

I know a bad work(wo)man should not blame her tools, but the one ring I had, no matter how much I tried to grease it, the mixture got stuck and it was very difficult to get it out of the ring.

Very pleased with the taste though, so if I can just find some better rings ...
