Rose chafer
Had an earlyish get up and went over to Costco to stock up on some basics. It was nice and quiet - quite a change from the usual crush and long queues. Went on to the garden centre afterwards and had fun choosing plants for my bee and butterfly border.
It turned into a lovely hot afternoon and we had lunch in the garden, lazing in our new chairs with the purple fronds of wisteria floating above us. We spent a couple of hours reading and generally relaxing. There were lots of birds visiting the feeders and quite a few large bees and other insects. This rose chafer almost fell on top of us and landed with a bump in the grass. I've not seen one of these for a while (Rose Chafer in 2011) and the beetle was beautifully shiny in the bright sun.
Planted out the new plants when it cooled down a bit. I'm hoping that I've blitzed the slug population with the biological control nematodes so the plants won't be consumed overnight.
Nice way to spend a bank holiday.
