Vulcan plaque

 A mile up the road from Earlestpwn is Vulcan village , this is one of two plaques on the terraced houses walls. The Vulcan Foundry was opened in 1831 and later developed into one of the world's foremost locomotive manufacturers. Vulcan Village, the southernmost suburb of Newton was developed to house workers from the foundry and has in recent years become a conservation area.
