in the Bluebells
Despite the forecast heavy rain, Dad, Rosemary & I, with Inca of course, headed to Castle Archdale. I haven’t been there recently & was keen to see the bluebells, as I thought they should be in full bloom.
We walked in the rain, the scent of the ransoms was overpowering, the scent of the bluebells was much more subtle & there were lovely drifts of bluebells.
We had tea in the courtyard tearoom, because of the rain they had not been busy today.
Given the 70th anniversary of VE Day events that have been held over the weekend it was touching to see that somebody had placed a single yellow rose on the memorial stone near the beacon. Dad talked about some of his childhood memories associated with the RAF & American Air Force troops based in Killadeas (near Irvinestown where he lived), his father was a GP & occasionally treated some of the troops.
