WHITE FACED HERON
White faced heron (Ardea Novaehollandiae) is self introduced to New Zealand and was very rare until the 1940's - from Australia. - it's fully protected - feeds on water insects, fish frogs, & crabs and the like. Lays 3-5 eggs which are light blue with white chalky marks.
There were eight of them in my puddle today and after a while they accepted my presence and we had a nice encounter. - I noticed all of a sudden the whole lot of them became tense - Oh!Oh! I said ( to myself of course) somethings overhead - and sure enough they all took off when an Australasian Harrier came prowling in. So this one's caught flying and I put it in For JH and Rainie today as they said they preferred my flying White Heron from several days ago ( extra) I've put another couple of extra's up today for those who like birds. - please tell me which one is preferred it helps my thinking and your thoughts are appreciated!
