Cat wrangling

Linda had to move the hay bales today as new hay was being delivered, so we went round to help with the kittens before walking our dogs. When we arrived the kittens were already in this bucket, and soon Mummy cat arrived back and got into the bucket with them.
L quickly put a lid on the bucket as we attempted to transfer all five (as there turned out to be four kittens, all girls) into a little dog cage that we had brought along.
What a disaster that was! Mummy car took fright and jumped out, and the kittens got out through the bars in the cage! one ran under the pallets holding the new hay, and mummy cat took one off in her mouth jumping up onto the stable door and out the back. Eventually we found her under some logs but couldn't coax her or the kitten out again. She came back for the kitten under the pallet and so we gave up and put the other two kittens, still in the bucket, nearby for her to collect.
The plan was to take all the cats to the SPA (local animal refuge) and maybe L can still catch Mummy cat when she next comes for food, but if not she could have 20-40 cats running around by Christmas!
