Mystery Solved
Some of you may remember on April 22nd I blipped a shot of a mystery flower that had appeared in my garden. The late frost finished off the flowers but now the leaves have appeared and here is one of them. My green fingered friend Mary tracked the plant down and I can now reveal it is Darmera peltata. "A perennial which flourishes in bog gardens or poorly drained soil.Star shaped clusters of pink flowers emerge on tall stems in late Spring, creating a striking display before leaves emerge. As seasons progress the foliage turns red before dying back in Autumn. It is native to mountain stream sides in woodland in the Western US.
