Times Of My Life

Early Rush

After evolybaB commented on yesterday's blip, I decided to do a few on the theme of time, and its movement.  So this morning Rocky and I headed down into the Den for our morning walk.

I've explained before that this wonderful area is a community owned woodland walk, bisected by the Den Burn, which rushes through.  From my house you walk along a piece of unadopted road (i.e. a track), and then through a great meadow park, before descending sharply down a brae into this scene of natural beauty.

I used to walk here very regularly, both early in the morning or later in the day.  However, I had to stop because of the number of people who take their dogs there and let them run off the lead.  For some reason, many dogs become extremely aggressive when they see a dog being walked on the lead.

I can't let mine off, as he has absolutely no recall, and would never come back if he got a whiff of a rabbit or just felt like heading off in a different direction.  Anyway, we have been attacked so many times that it has made Rocky pretty aggressive too, and I am a nervous wreck when I see a strange dog, or one I know will fight.

This morning though I just wanted a nice walk, and the chance to see the primroses and wood anemones, and hear the birds chattering away.  So, we took our chances and I'm glad we did.  It's a lovely way to start the day; there is a particular smell that you just want to inhale all the way down to the bottom of your lungs.

So, early in the morning we stood for a bit watching the water rush down to the first little bridge, and then onto the other.  In a couple of months the Duck Race will take place here, and they will bob up and down and get stuck in the rocks, as they do every year.

Someone pointed out to me once that you never see the same river or stream twice, as the minute the water has flowed by you are looking at a different river.  So my cry of Stop! yesterday was pretty futile, as life will no doubt continue to rush by and around me no matter how much I'd like it just to take a wee rest!
