8 May 2015 - Rememberance at Sachsenhausen

A harrowing day today, we took a train to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp just outside Berlin.  A really sad place, no joy in visiting but a necessary place to visit when visiting Germany.

I was coping quite well for most of the day but I was tipped over the edge with two stories abut three brothers and a gay man who were killed in the camp and I just sat on a bench and weeped.  The brothers were killed in a horrible way and the gay man sounded like such a lovely person, I felt that I would have been his friend, that he would have been a joy to be around.  Such terrible things that people can do it each other, so sad and needless and as Kate said  this sort of thing is still happening today which is awful.

It was such a grueling day that we took ourselves to Gendarmenmarkt and sat in the square with a beer, contemplated and watched the world go by.  We then took ourselves up the TV Tower in the evening and enjoyed a cocktail high above the city.
