Ashford in the Water well dressing
The weather was ideal for a walk in the peak district, and on the way we dropped into Ashford in the Water, to look at the well dressings.
Dressing the wells is an ancient custom in Derbyshire, possibly originating from celtic times. The modern day dressings are made from natural materials pressed into clay which has been mounted onto a frame. Flower petals, bark, seeds, grasses etc are all used to good effect.
I have put a couple of photos showing some of the detail onto my blipfolio if anyone is curious.
