Skagway
Skagway is famous for having been a Gold Rush town in the late 1890's. We hiked the Chilkoot Trail once used by hoards of prospectors trekking to the gold fields.
There were just seven of us with our guide, Jeremy. We had to begin with the safety procedures for bear encounters (bit off-putting, but thankfully no incidents!)
After a couple of miles, we boarded an inflatable to raft down the Taiya River. We saw a few seals in the water and several bald eagles up in the trees.
Much is being made of the sunny weather. Apparently, clear skies and sunny days are unusual here but it makes everything so lovely.
