Rosslyn Chapel, Midlothian

A fifteenth century chapel with fine stonecarvings.

The world only discovered it because of its appearance in the book and film of "The Da Vinci Code": now it receives daily a thousand or so visitors in summer.  Most of its visitors are clearly illiterate, since while they usually seem to be Americans they fail to understand the sign stating that photography inside the chapel is forbidden.

My last visit to this chapel was in the 1970s, to a delightful evening concert.  This time I found the illiterates and their antics more than a little off-putting.  (Bring back the concerts, please!)
