Gavin's Maiden Marathon

As I said the other day, we travelled to Cork, way down in the south of the country to visit my youngest daughter Joanna and to cheer on her boyfriend Gavin as he competed in today's Cork City Marathon. Having never run a race in his life and off only six weeks training he got around and here you see him about to cross the finish line. He ran a blinder and for 15 miles it looked like he was going to come home in about four and a half hours. Then he discovered what the wall is all about. At 20 miles, the left knee which you can just see here was strapped up as it has been giving him trouble for the past two weeks, finally sried "enough" and he was reduced to a crawl for the final 6 miles.... but as you can see, he manfully stuck to the task and smiled his way across the line in 5 hours 13 minutes. Well done Gavin!
