A day in country.
After yesterdays fantastic garden party we felt a quiet day in the country was called for.
Last week my work took me to East Linton where I came across the only working mill in Scotland. It is run by The National Trust so when I say working I don't mean commercially. Everything that needs to turn, turns, from the handle that operates the sluice to the cog that turns the mill stones. I couldn't believe how many different wheels and cogs the water sets in motion.
I took many photos inside the mill but chose to show you the outside as it is thought to have stood, in some part, since the 18th Century, although there has been a mill on this site since the 16th Century. In 1948 the mill was under at least 7' of water due to flooding. The local land owner gave the building to the National Trust for Scotland in 1950.
