St Mary The Virgin Church
Today’s picture is of our village church, which is very difficult to photograph, especially with a point and press camera. So here is the Church, complete with converging verticals were we went today to say goodbye to an old friend. He was 91 and had been poorly and blind for several years. He was born in our village and lived there all his life. He had an interesting and eventful life and was a Marine Commando driving one of the landing craft on D-Day. While being transported as a Marine on three occasions the ship he was on was sunk.
After his naval career he was the Station Master at the local railway station and with Jack, his co-worker, maintained the station and gardens, winning the ‘Best Kept Station’ for several years.
