Get Away!

There was no getting away from this photo even though I mis-timed the framing twice from the front seat of the car as we passed and then repassed these boys en route to 6th October City. This satellite city of Cairo was formerly predominantly industrial but now has business and residential bits added. It was named after Egypt's military victory over Israel in 1973 - except that it wasn't a victory at all at the end of the day. In the same way, Stirling in Scotland could have been renamed 24th June City to commemorate the (real) victory at Bannockburn in 1314 but we don't really go in for that sort of thing.

Anyway, I liked the thrust of it and it seemed a fitting way to mark the first time I have had privately paid work in Egypt. The initially planned two hour session become a fully-engaged five hour one. I noted my client looking at his watch a couple of times and wondered if he was desperate for it all to be over, but he was just checking on when he and his colleague needed to break for mid-afternoon prayers. The same God received a parallel prayer of thanks from this Scottish presbyterian.
